The topic I chose to do a debate essay about is “School Starting Later”. I’m definitely for this topic because I’m a person that has trouble getting up in the morning. When it’s a 2-hour delay I feel like I’m more attentive during my courses, and it’s not the fact that the classes are shortened I just feel more awake and ready to start the day off right. Without doing any research I know that other schools around the US start at later times. and their students have better scores in basically everything and their more attentive during their classes. I haven’t looked at the school the schools online research database yet but I’m definitely find something. I plan on looking at reliable websites and the school’s research database to find information that is done by professionals to find logical (facts) and ethical (moral) information regarding my topic. There is a wide range of emotions that could be brought into this topic’s conversation. My classmates should care about this because this could improve all our grades in our courses and give us a better future. Plus if you’re like me and have trouble getting up in the morning and getting to school on time it will help with that too.
It’s finally 2019! The thing I’m going to miss about 2018 is being younger. That’s it. I’m not ready to grow up but that’s life. Things I’m looking forward to during the new year is growing as a person. I want to see what I can do and become. I want to improve myself in every way. I can make plans to improve myself and I can volunteer to help others. I could volunteer to help out somewhere. A thing that could prevent me from doing these things is being sick. But there are also things that no one expects to happen such as a family emergency. But another thing could be regulations that could prevent me from doing something. I guess we’ll see what 2019 has to offer.
I like it a little bit more but I’m still not a huge fan. Writing poems with requirements has definitely affected the way I look at other poems. My approach has changed by the way I interpret the poem. My first poem was sort of just thrown together really fast, and then my second poem I tried making more allusions instead of just giving away the object I was talking about. Some images could be a snowflake, Santa, a snowman (Frosty), etc.
Really adding allusions would just be adding descriptions of objects and people without actually giving the thing away. Really the only thing I can do is express my feelings about the subject and try to get the reader to connect to the poem.
Out of all the poem we read/ had the opportunity to read I liked one. All – by Matthew Palmer. It was short and it gives a realization to the surroundings in the biome. It made me feel like I was actually there. It could have gone better, the table I’m at didn’t really care about doing the work. We didn’t really read the poem we really just skimmed for the answers. I did terrible at writing the poem. I couldn’t think of what to write. I had a classmate help me with it. He gave me some additions and fixes so I could get it done. From what one of the peer reviews said “Nothing…”, but I know there’s always something that can be improved.
My story isn’t 100% finished at all yet. I’m still working on some things that need fixed and revised. My story has changed a little bit from the start of the assignment. Some things are still unclear to me but I’ll figure it out when the times comes, which needs to be quick. I have the main part of my story done I just need to figure out what I want to be added at the beginning, middle, and end. My thoughts about my story is that it’s terrible. I don’t really like anything about it, or at least the way it is right now. I’m not a fan of different ways that I’ve thought about the beginning and ending of my story. I know people say just let your imagination run free but I can’t do that or it’s hard for me to. I’m also not a fan of doing that. I’m not one of those people who likes to let their imagination run free. I like it to keep it contained because I have other things to worry about. I’m always worried about sports that I don’t really give myself time to think freely. So I need to figure out a way to begin and end this story fast because its already late.
My idea came out of some tv shows I watch. People fight, someone gets killed, Only most of them get solved by other people. Mine is really just a conflict with a bad ending. The work we’ve been doing and class and what we’ve been discussing have somewhat changed the way I decided to write the short story, but I still have a lot to figure out still. The way we did some things in class did change some ways I planning on piecing together the story but I sort of figured out when I needed to. How Because I was thinking of a different way to make this story but after talking about ways in class I chose to do it a different way. Why? Looking back my original plan I realized that it’s the same way I make all my stories that I have to right for school. So I changed it up this time and I guess we’ll see how well it works for me.
In the story “The Devil and Tom Walker” Tom was greedy so made a deal with the Devil so he could get everything he wanted. In today’s day and age we do still see greed weather we’re the ones with is or other people. There is no specific place we can see greed, we can/do see greed everywhere. Being greedy can lead to bad things, for example having to much greed can lead to bad actions and even worse outcomes.Throughout time we’ve seen countless number of evils, weather it’s murder, assault, theft (major or minor) and the list goes on. I think they’ve stayed here because all people can be/are greedy at multiple points in our lives. The thing is greed can’t be addressed fully, people are always going to want something someone else has and if everyone has the something than how is that object special to that person anymore. In my personal opinion evil is an action done for the wrong reason. Evil can look differently depending on the situation. for example a crime scene can be the aftermath of evil. The only way I can classify evil in a sound is in movies, when a villain laughs or leaves his signature mark.
My initial reaction the the story was “Okay this just going to be another devil story where the devil tries to do something bad.” And as expected it was. This story is similar in some ways to other stories that I have read, for example the devil tries to do something bad, and the name the devil is referred to as. The difference between them is the time, setting, and the way the devil is characterized. My impression of the society is that they really don’t like the devil but they can be persuaded to do bad things to a certain extent. People can be easily persuaded to do bad thing to a certain extent. Really all I could change is the time and the setting so it would appeal to today’s generation.
After a week of notes, the one that stands out to me the most is the definition of climax (The highest emotional level reached). The reason this stood out to me is because sometimes the highest level of emotion reached is at the end of the book. For example, if someone close to the character(s) dies, or if there’s a sequel. Another term that caught my attention was the word meaning of catharsis (The emotional bonding of the character(s) and the reader). It caught my attention because different people connect to different characters in different ways, and in some ways it can reflect the readers life at that time. To be honest, I don’t know of any book that represent what I’m talking about, but I can definitely say that it definitely changes my point of view of those stories. The difference between observing a story and being an active participant as the audience can be pretty big. When you’re just observing a story you’re basically just skimming through the story only looking for key points that will help with what you’re looking for/ what you’re supposed to find. On the other hand if your active throughout the story you’ll what a better understanding of what’s going on and might learn a lesson or two. Plus you’re going to be more engaged in the story and might create an catharsis with one or more of the characters. The second week of school was worst than the first week because of the amount of things that happened. I’m just waiting because I know it’s only going to get harder from here on out. Some classes I’m actually looking forward to now, those classes include Chem, English, study hall and lunch. Yes I’m including lunch and study hall as classes because they’re on my schedule.
My first week of Junior year could have started off better but it was okay. All my harder classes are are at the begging of the day so that’s a little stressful, but that just means I’ll just have to work harder. This Year I have classmates that are in almost all of my morning classes so if I need help or if I forget something I have people to ask. My expectations for this school year is that it’s definitely going to be harder than past years, with more work, and expectations being put on me I’m definitely going to be forgetting things and stressing out a lot. After being in my classes for a few days now I’m not really looking forward to any classes. Most of my teachers seem cool and understandable but others just seem aggravated a little bit. Looking at the soccer team this year I have a feeling that we’re going to have a better season than last year. We definitely have better chemistry than last year which is good. Playing the position I do I feel like every goal is my fault because i could have done something better in some way. My teammates say it wasn’t my fault but it really is, I’m the last line of defense and if I play the way I did at the scrimmage than I’m going to be letting them down even more. There are a lot of things I need to improve on to help the team out. This year I’m planning on trying out track, I’m still not sold on the idea though because I want to get a job but its hard to find one that works around my schedule. Trying to balance soccer, school, basketball, and firefighter classes and calls are hard by them selves, but I’ll find a way.
