My feature story was called Three Mile Island. It talks about how all the warning signs in the control room weren’t working. It states that some valves were stuck but nothing seemed put of the ordinary. What ended up happening is the core ended up having a partial meltdown. After this accident, more and more people went against nuclear power which, in 1980, actually stopped the opening of commercial nuclear facilities for a while. People were worried that the nuclear material that escaped was harmful. Specialists reassured them that it wasn’t but some people still thought it was. After the accident, they couldn’t use the reactor anymore and even a decade later couldn’t get too close. This accident is what set stricter policies for all of the other nuclear facilities in America.
